Pattern Sort
Sort words by their vowel pattern: short or long a, a_e or ay, oi or oy, ou or ow.

Sorting words by their vowel pattern, the way structured-literacy lessons do. Word cards ride in on the sorting station's belt and the student puts each one in its bin: short a or long a (cap, cape), short a, i or o, a_e or ay (rake, day), o_e or oa (bone, boat), oi or oy (coin, boy), ou or ow (house, town). Read and sort (the word is on the card), or sort by sound: only the picture and the recording, so the student listens for the vowel. A wrong bin shakes; at the end, the bins show every word to read back. Each student's sort and options are saved.
